Check out IN THE ROOM this week as we’re joined by all-time legendary referee Earl Hebner. Earl has been involved in the inner workings of WWE, AEW, TNA Impact, and the wrestling world at large for five decades, and has played a role in everything from Andre the Giant’s fiasco of a title win against Hulk Hogan to a well-known little angle known as the Montreal Screwjob! Plus, lots of WWE WrestleMania discussion and the shows from WWE and AEW moving forward. Call in (657) 383-1666!
This week IN THE ROOM, Brady Hicks, DJ, and Anthony Sarlo take a look at the past week in wrestling, including the release of Chavo Guerrero, more thoughts on Warrior/Hogan and TNA/Impact’s Bound for Glory and Destination-X tournaments, and the ROH and WSU i-ppvs. Thanks for the support!

This week IN THE ROOM, Brady Hicks, DJ, and Kevin McElvaney are joined by a special guest as Young John returns to the program. Together, the gang recounts all that they enjoyed – and all that miffed them – about this year’s WrestleMania show, from buildup to final fadeout. Listen as the gang goes in depth about The Rock/John Cena situation, The Undertaker/Triple-H match and what worked (and didn’t), and the disappointing elimination of Daniel Bryan/Sheamus from the televised card. Plus, Brady talks some Hall of Fame, and previews NEXT WEEK’s special guest.
As a wrestling fan, I wish that nobody had to get older. I would love nothing more than to see some of my favorite stars of the 1980’s and 1990’s hang onto their primes and compete with some of the top stars today. The problem is I know this is just a fantasy. So few are blessed with the sort of career longevity that lets them compete well into their 60’s, 70’s, or beyond. And even if they do, it’s just not realistic to expect a level of performance close to what they could once offer. In the real world, people get older. Every day, the bodies of ORDINARY men and women – people with lives no more grueling than our own – break down around us. It’s just what time does.
This week, “The Living Legend” himself, Larry Zbyszko steps IN THE ROOM with Brady Hicks, DJ, and Kevin McElvaney to look back at his more than 30 year career in the wrestling business. Check it out as Zbyszko looks back on mentoring under (and turning on) Bruno Sammartino, his war of words with Chris Jericho, the instrumental role he played in WCW’s rise and the New World Order’s emergence, and his thoughts on how to change the business for the better. Plus, the guys offer their WrestleMania thoughts and predictions.
On Keeping Up With The Business: To be honest, I just don’t find wrestling entertaining the way it is right now. I just don’t watch it. I wish it was better for the new generation, it could be great but they make the guys look like morons. I just don’t watch it because it’s all silly. There’s no suspense. You can see the same crap you saw tonight any night. Boring. They’ve just gotten stale because what they are doing today is the same thing they were doing 15 years ago. I can honestly say for any of these young guys coming up that I can see why they’d rather get involved in that Ultimate Fighting.
Raw was awesome. OK maybe not the entirety of the show, the opening was atrocious, but Christian and Edge together, HBK making an explosive entrance and getting involved in what was the best confrontation of the night up until… The Rock. I’m not even sure what can be said about The Rock except that he made everyone including Edge/Christian, HBK, Hunter, and The Undertaker look like undercard players and he made Cena and The Miz (or however you spell his name) look like amateurs. From the moment he hit the walkway, he had the arena in the palm of his hand. Check that, he had the arena and me (and plenty of people I follow on Twitter) in the palm of his hand. After watching that last night I am really excited about Sunday night.
If I did have a complaint about it though, the actual wrestling was minimal (maybe 15 minutes out of 135) and the stuff not involving the “old” superstars was kind of meh… I actually dozed off during the Big Show and his happy band of ethnicities. But I can say this, if The Rock is going to be around more than just Wrestlemania and next night, I may very well be back on board.
This week IN THE ROOM, Brady Hicks welcomes #6 and #7 competitors in the ECWA Super 8 tournament … SHIIMA XION and BOBBY SHIELDS. Check out what these aspiring young stars think about where they are headed and what they think about this year’s tourney. All that, plus Brady and Kevin McElvaney talk up WrestleMania and take a special look at where The Rock, Shawn Michaels, Triple-H, and The Undertaker are headed as they ease their way back onto WWE television.
Some food for thought from my friend–and Wrestling-Online Newsletter editor–Colin Vasallo. I can remember a few yeas ago when Shawn suggested Bret could one day induct him, and everybody laughed. It’s funny how things can change over time.
Appearing on the LAW audio show, WWE Hall of Famer Bret “Hit Man” Hart said that if he is asked to induct Shawn Michaels into the
Hall of Fame this year he would have no problem at all. “The truth is Shawn was a great wrestler and I had a lot of great matches with him. I’m proud of some of the great memories I had with Shawn and I would be happy to induct him into the Hall of Fame if they asked me to,” the former WWE champion said. Hart buried the hatchet with Michaels last year during a powerful segment on the first Monday Night RAW of 2010, Bret’s first WWE television appearance since November 1997.
